NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Alan Dixon, CEO of the Freeport Container Port, has resigned.
Last month, Eyewitness News reported on a letter from employees alleging fraudulent activities by top management, including issues related to work permits, nepotism, and violations of work practices. Foreign Affairs Minister and PLP Chairman Fred Mitchell subsequently confirmed that an investigation was underway involving the Ministries of Labour and Immigration.
The employees’ letter, addressed to shareholders, management, and government officials, expressed disappointment with Mr. Dixon’s leadership and urged a thorough investigation into claims of breaches of Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) company policies. It requested the immediate removal of those responsible. The letter detailed grievances, including allegations regarding Mr. Dixon’s travel expenses and nepotism, and claimed that government officials accepted gifts to expedite application processing.
Labour Minister Pia Glover-Rolle confirmed to Eyewitness News: “I have been advised that he has resigned.” She noted that details of the investigation would be provided by the Director of Labour, who is leading the inquiry in collaboration with the Department of Immigration.
Glover-Rolle further stated: “The Bahamas Department of Labour, through our Policy Enforcement Unit, is taking a zero-tolerance approach to any complaints received, ensuring immediate investigations and swift resolutions. This is a multi-agency effort in collaboration with The Bahamas Department of Immigration.”
