The union representing line staff at the state run water company said recently that it has long called for voluntary separation packages (VSEP) for its membership, despite the recent announcement by the company’s chairman that downsizing is imminent.

Bahamas Utility Service and Allied Workers Union (BUSAWU) President Dwayne Woods told Eyewitness News recently, that members have been calling for packages to be offered prior to that announcement.

Woods said the union remains at odds with management over the firing of three employees who were cleared of all charges over the theft of a fire hydrant.

W&SC Chairman Adrian Gibson announced during the recent budget communication that W&SC would undergo a right-sizing process, which he said, would be similar to that of the VSEP programme offered at Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) recently.
