NASSAU, BAHAMAS- The Bahamas Telecommunication Company’s (BTC) chief executive said yesterday the company has seen “double-digit” subscriber growth on its fixed services
André Foster told reporters on the sidelines of the company’s press conference that sales have been “amazing” over the last half-year.
“Our focus this year has been on maintaining a growth trajectory on our fixed services,” he said.
“Every quarter we are measuring how well we are succeeding on that. I can tell you percentage-wise that it is double-digit percentages that we are growing our subscriber base on fixed services, specifically on broadband services we are seeing great take-up.”
Foster said: “We have had amazing sales over the last half-year. Our fixed services continue to grow. It’s not just in New Providence and Grand Bahama but in places like Exuma and Abaco where we are building a brand new network and bringing it back stronger.”
The BTC chief noted that the company has been seeing great success in getting customers to return to BTC. He said the company continues to add more capacity incrementally as its subscriber count grows, referring to the COVID-19 pandemic resulting in more employees working from home and schools switching to a virtual or hybrid learning platform.
Foster noted that with this in mind, BTC has offered its employees the ability to work remotely.
When asked about the introduction of 5G technology, Foster said, “We have had a view that 5G in populations that are not very dense is not really a game-changer. That said, we do have a road map for 5G.”
According to Foster, the company’s mobile network quality has significantly improved, resulting in fewer dropped calls.
“We continue to monitor our network quality to ensure that we do not have dropped calls, especially on our mobile network,” he said.
“We continent to invest in our infrastructure to add more capacity where we have maybe had some issues. I’m pleased to say that our network quality on mobile has improved significantly it has on the fixed side where we have deployed fibre to the home.”
