The country recorded it’s 55 murder of the year late Tuesday evening when police confirmed that a man was dead as a result of a shooting incident at Burial Ground Corner off East Street.
According to police reports, shortly after 11:00 p.m., police responded to Burial Ground Corner off East Street after receiving reports of gunshots in the area.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a male who was unresponsive with injuries. Emergency Medical services were called and they pronounced the man dead at the scene.
“What we know so far is that gunshots were heard in this area and a man was seen running from the scene,” said Superintendent Shanta Knowles, the Royal Bahamas Police Force’s (RBPF) press liaison.
“We are appealing to persons in this community, especially those on this street who may have seen or heard what has happened here tonight to give us a call on our Crime Stoppers Line at 328-8477 or the Central Detective Unit…
“We are asking anyone who may have any idea who he (the man who fled the scene) is, to give us a call. ”
This latest incident occurred just hours after the Commissioner of Police Anthony Ferguson told media that the murder rate was down for the first half of 2018 when compared to last year.
Investigations are ongoing.
