NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Power outages that have been plaguing residents in Eleuthera could be rectified before the end of September, according to Bahamas Power & Light’s Chief Operating Officer Toni Seymour.
Seymour gave the assurance at a press briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister on Thursday morning. The assertion came in the wake of growing frustrations from residents who argue that there has been little to no action taken to address electricity outages, coupled with water woes that have been impacting Eleutherans for months on end.
Seymour noted that the prolonged power outages could be attributed to a number of factors “out of their control” such as traffic accidents, natural disasters, construction damage and wildlife.
Nonetheless, Seymour asserted that BPL workers are on the ground with plans to revamp the island’s transmission and generation network.
Seymour notes that there are plans to add five (5) megawatts to Rock Sound Eleuthera’s power station, while also addressing aging electricity infrastructure.
