BPL commissions new generator at Rock Sound, boosting power reliability in Eleuthera

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Bahamas Power and Light Company Ltd. (BPL) has commissioned a new generator at its Rock Sound Power Plant, bringing immediate relief to residents of Eleuthera who have faced ongoing power challenges. The installation marks a major step in BPL’s effort to stabilize electricity supply on the island and follows through on commitments made less than a week ago during a town hall meeting in South Eleuthera.

Pedro Marcello, BPL’s Southern Regional Manager, said the newly commissioned unit significantly strengthens the island’s power capacity and will reduce strain on the Hatchet Bay Power Station. The enhanced capacity is expected to minimize outages and improve overall system reliability as the company continues to roll out broader infrastructure upgrades across Eleuthera.

The upgrade at Rock Sound coincides with the recent commissioning of the Tarpum Bay Substation, which improves transmission and distribution efficiency across South Eleuthera. The new substation will help deliver electricity more reliably while supporting future grid expansion and modernization projects.

Together, the two developments mark measurable progress in BPL’s long-term plan to enhance energy security throughout the Family Islands. While larger infrastructure projects remain in progress, these immediate investments reflect BPL’s ongoing commitment to providing dependable power, supporting economic growth, and improving quality of life for residents and businesses.

BPL officials emphasized that these efforts are part of a sustained strategy to build a stronger, more resilient energy network across Eleuthera and the wider Bahamas.
