The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) yesterday named the women’s team that will represent the country at the upcoming Fed Cup Championships in Ecuador.
This year’s tournament will be held in Guayaquil from July 18-21. Participating nations include Bermuda, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Honduras and Trinidad and Tobago.
Team Bahamas will be made up by Kerrie Cartwright, who will play the No.1 position, No.2 Danielle Thompson, and Sierra Donaldson. The team will be captained by Marvin Rolle, International Tennis Federation (ITF) Level two coach and two-time Davis Cup winner.
According to BLTA president Darnett Weir, as soon as the team is done with the Fed Cup, it will travel to the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games.
The BLTA said it is looking for the women’s team to follow the lead of the men’s Davis Cup team that advanced to the Americas Zone Group I, knocking off Peru 2-0 in the qualifying game.
