BICCo ramps up hiring for $200M Sampson Cay development

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Bahamas Industries & Construction Company Ltd. (BICCo) has ramped up hiring for the $200 million Sampson Cay development, a major Exuma project led by Yntegra Group in partnership with Rosewood Hotels & Resorts.

BICCo, acting as general contractor for the project’s early construction phase says it has already screened 146 prospective employees, with 65 percent drawn from the Exumas and the remainder primarily from New Providence and Grand Bahama. Initial hiring includes dump truck drivers, heavy equipment operators, security personnel, cooks, and kitchen helpers.

“For BICCo, partnering with the Yntegra Group on this project has truly been a red-letter day—not just for the economic opportunities it brings, but because we share so many of the same values,” said Sandlee Brutus, BICCo principal. “From creating meaningful employment and empowering Bahamians, to prioritizing sustainability, protecting the environment, and fostering genuine collaboration with the community, we are aligned in purpose.”

Founded in 2016, BICCo delivers full-service construction solutions across The Bahamas. Since opening operations in Black Point in 2024, the company has emphasized leveraging local talent to drive real economic opportunity. The Sampson Cay development marks a milestone in that mission.

“Yntegra’s commitment to hiring locally and building in harmony with the Exuma landscape impressed us from the start,” Brutus added.

BICCo in a statement noted that it has worked closely with local government and community leaders in Black Point and Staniel Cay to prepare residents for the construction phase. The effort comes as Exuma experiences record-high employment yet still faces limited upskilling pathways in remote settlements.

“People are excited. The number one question we get is, ‘When are we starting?’” Brutus said. “This project is more than jobs—it’s about empowerment, skills development, and long-term growth for our communities.”

The company is also emphasizing on-the-job training for equipment operators, mechanics, and trades specialists, giving workers skills that will extend beyond the Sampson Cay project.

“In simple words,” noted Robert Rahming, “early engagement of a local-knowledge partner is critical to the success of any project.”

The Sampson Cay development, located on East Sampson Cay, will become home to Rosewood Exuma, a 33-suite luxury resort designed to blend ultra-luxury with adventure travel. Amenities include six dining outlets, a 20,000-square-foot wellness sanctuary, outdoor sports and watersports facilities, two marinas for yachts up to 150 feet, and a fully serviced beach club.
