NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Minister of Social Services and Urban Development, the Hon. Frankie A. Campbell, Sunday applauded the pastoral team and congregation of Cousin McPhee Cathedral, AME Church, for “taking root and branching into a mighty witness to an awesome God” as did the Biblical mustard seed.

Bringing greetings on behalf of Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert A. Minnis, Minister Campbell told the congregation that after 35 years of witness, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked and quenching the thirst of the neighboring community: “the mustard seed of this church has grown root and branched into a mighty witness to an awesome God.”

“Thirty-five years is a considerable milestone,” Minister Campbell said. “We are reminded in Matthew 25: For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you invited me in. It went on to say: ‘I needed clothes and you clothed me. I was sick and you looked after me. I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

“I want to publicly express gratitude to those in the religious community and the non-profit social sector who help to feed the hungry and to care for the more vulnerable in our society because no government can do it alone. As you celebrate your 35th anniversary, I invite you to continue to meet the demands of the gospels in helping to minister to God’s people in mind, body and soul,” Minister Campbell added.

Minister Campbell told the congregation that the Church across the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, have in the past and continue to be, wonderful partners with Governments of The Bahamas. He said those collaborations have been great examples of the benefits public/private partnerships can bring forth.

He said he can identify with the Gospel of Matthew’s “clarion” call.

“As Minister of Social Services, it is my primary responsibility to help those in our society who are vulnerable and who need care and assistance. Our enduring mission is to help children, the youth, the aged, the community of persons with disabilities and others who are in need of government aid and intervention,” Minister Campbell said.

“Continue to dwell in the strength and the House of the Lord as you continue your ministry of love, hope, healing and reconciliation. In the words of Isaiah (40:31, the Scriptural Text for this anniversary): ‘Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not be faint.’” He added, “May God continue to bless your pastoral team and your community of faith.”
