Bastian first up for 2018 Summer Youth Olympics

Swimmer Izaak Bastian was the first athlete to compete for team Bahamas in Buenos Aires, Argentina, at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics.

Bastian competed in the opening heats of the men’s 100-meter (m) breaststroke. He finished eighth overall in heat two in 1:05.21 and failed to advance to the semifinal round.

Yu Hanaguruma won the heat in 1:02.22, followed by Russian Vladislav Gerasimenko in 1:02.46 and Bo Pham-Thanh, from Vietnam, in 1:02.99.

Bastian returns to the water today at the Natatorium Swimming Pool in the men’s 50m freestyle.

Victoria Russell also gets into the water for the first time in the competition today in the women’s 50m butterfly. She’ll be competing in heat two out of lane five.
