Bahamian diplomat elected vice-chairman of OAS committee

Bahamian Ambassador to the United States (US) Sidney Collie was elected vice-chairman of the General Committee of the Organization of American States (OAS) General Assembly.

Ambassador Collie who is also OAS permanent representative for The Bahamas was elected at its 48th Regular Session from 4-5 June, 2018, in Washington, DC. 

The said committee is charged with the oversight of the negotiation of draft resolutions which are later presented to the assembly for action.

Among the resolutions adopted at the 48th Regular Session of the OAS General Assembly was the Resolution on the Situation in Venezuela. The Bahamas, led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Darren Henfield, joined eighteen other OAS Member States in voting in favour of the resolution.
