The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers’ Confederation (BCCEC) partnered with ALIV, Bahamas Air, and the Bahamas Embassy in Haiti this past weekend, to lead a cross-section of 17 Bahamian business persons on a trade mission to Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Led by BCCEC CEO Edison Summer, the mission included a courtesy call to Haitian President Jovenel Moïse and Prime Minister Dr. Jack Guy Lafontant.

Highlighting the mission were business-to-business sessions, where Bahamian delegates were paired with their Haitian counterparts, in a series of meetings to discuss and explore business opportunities in Haiti.

Topics addressed included trade facilitation, logistics and agriculture, along with The Bahamas’ private sector’s commitment following the government’s recent trip to the country back in February.

Moïse stressed that his government was open to trade and investments, particularly, in the agriculture and electricity generation sectors.

Delegates visited E-Power, a power station; Port Lafito, a real estate development; and AGA Corp Group, a clothing manufacturing company.

The delegates also followed several presentations from the Center of Facilitation of Investments in Haiti; Fonkoze, a microfinancing company; Digicel BPO, a business division of Digicel Haiti focusing on delivering Business Processes Outsourcing (BPO) in contact center services and BCCEC about the trade and investment opportunities available in The Bahamas,  details of which, were outlined in a commemorative trade mission booklet widely distributed.

The mission culminated with a networking reception with about 50 persons from the government and the private sectors.
