The Bahamas Fed Cup team finished second overall in Group II play in Ecuador over the weekend.
The team lost in a sweep to host country Ecuador in the tournament finale. In the opener, Danielle Thompson, who played well during the entire tournament racking up two singles wins, lost 6-3, 6-3 to Camilia Romero. In the second match, Kerrie Cartwright also fell to Charlotte Romer 6-3, 6-3.
“Danielle came out with a lot of grit and dedication and left it all out there on the clay,” said Bahamas coach Marvin Rolle.
“Kerrie’s match was a great match to watch stunning the home crowd by the tennis exchanges. It was apparent that the ladies were determined and, on a mission. We left it all on the court today and next year we will come back stronger and better.”
Now the team of Thompson, Cartwright, Simone Pratt and Sierra Donaldson will travel to Barranquilla, Colombia to compete in the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games. The tennis portion of the games kicks off on Tuesday.
