The Bahamas will play Peru in 7th-8th place game
The Bahamas u-17 boys water polo team missed out on the chance of a top six finish at the 2019 Pan American Junior Water polo championships after drawing with host nation Trinidad and Tobago today in the 6th-7th placement game.
The Bahamas, coming in off five straight losses, scored consistently but couldn’t get enough stops to pull away from Trinidad and Tobago and had to settle for a 9-9 draw. Seeing that Trinidad and Tobago had a better record through pool play it automatically took the sixth spot. Now, The Bahamas prepares to take on Peru in the 7th-8th place game tomorrow.
“We are now focusing on a final game against Peru, which unfortunately is not a World Championship qualifying spot,” said Bahamas head coach Laszlo Bobberly. “Thank you to everyone that watched the live stream, or congratulated us. This was a tough draw.”
The Bahamas suffered some tough losses over the course of the tournament, dropping games to Colombia (29-7), Canada (21-9), Brazil (28-5), Argentina (26-6) and the United States. The team’s only win so far came against Peru (14-11) on Wednesday.
