With less than a week to go before the start of the 2018 Caribbean Free Trade Agreement (CARIFTA) Judo Championships, BahamaClear has come on board as the title sponsor of the event.

The championships will be held on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the Courtyard Mariott Ballroom.

“We are pleased to participate in Judo, which has shown great development in the past few years,” said BahamaClear director Giovanna Charles.

The Bahamas serves as host of the championships for a second year and – according to team Bahamas head coach Oneysi Portorreal Pons – it will serve as a test event for the Junior Judo World Championships, which also take place in Nassau this coming October.

Team Bahamas will go up against teams from Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana, over the course of the competition.

“This is the first test for the team,” said Pons.

“Guyana and Trinidad have strong country programs. They will send some athletes that are seasoned and this will give us a good idea of where our program is at right now.”

Tickets for the championships are $10 and will be available at the door.

The following day, The Bahamas Judo Open will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Courtyard Mariott on West Bay Street.
