ArtSea Dance hosts workshop in Grand Bahama

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — A Bahamian professional dancer that has performed in over fifteen countries hosted a dance workshop over the weekend.

Co-founder of ArtSea Dance Courtney Celeste Spears was featured in the event held in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture, Helping Young Performers Excel (HYPE) and Bahamas Dance Theatre on August 26 and 27, 2022.

Spears is a Bahamian professional dancer at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, which her group described in a press release as “the most sought-after professional black dance company in the world”.

There were 13 individuals from the dance community in Grand Bahama that participated in the workshop. Among the dance schools represented were Georgia’s School of Dance & Theatre, Bahamas Dance Theatre, Hinds Feet Dance Academy, and St Georges High School Performing Arts Department.

Participant Mischa Moxey says she will always remember Courtney’s advice to “trust your technique”, which means to believe that you have the mindset to accomplish anything, no matter how difficult in the performing arts world.

BDT competition team coach & Director for HYPE Colette Parker was pleased with the workshop and the impact it left on the dancers. Parker felt that HYPE‘s mission, which is to create a platform to connect the arts community with international professionals and opportunities, was advanced during the weekend’s activities.

This is the second dance workshop held by HYPE, following an initial workshop featuring celebrity dancer and choreographer Jalen Preston.
