NASSAU, BAHAMAS — The Flamingos Women’s Golf Club 242 officially launched its Fall 2024 season at the Ocean Club Golf Course with an event that brought together women from across the country to promote golf and community engagement.
The event featured notable attendees, including First Lady Anne-Marie Davis, the wife of Prime Minister Philip Davis, and several wives of parliamentarians.
Held at the Ocean Club Golf Course, the event provided an opportunity for both seasoned players and beginners to improve their skills. Michael Simms, Director of Instruction at the golf course, led the session, offering guidance on techniques such as putting and driving, and providing insights into golf etiquette. The club’s goal was to create a welcoming environment where participants could develop their abilities with professional support.
First Lady Anne-Marie Davis participated in the event and spoke about the importance of women taking part in sports. “Golf requires focus and discipline, and it’s great to see women making strides in this area,” she remarked.
The Flamingos Women’s Golf Club 242 has been working to increase female participation in the sport, which has traditionally been male-dominated. The club aims to offer a space where women can engage with the sport without feeling intimidated. Torrianna Darville-Sands, a member of the club’s executive team, stated, “Our events focus on building a sense of community and providing a supportive space for women interested in golf.”
In the past two quarters, the club has hosted three events, helping to grow its membership and raise awareness of golf among women in The Bahamas. Darville-Sands added that the club plans to continue expanding its outreach, with more events planned for the upcoming season, including tournaments, workshops, and social gatherings.
The club’s leadership believes that initiatives like this will contribute to greater diversity in the sport, as they work to encourage more women to take up golf. With a full calendar of activities lined up for 2025, the Flamingos Women’s Golf Club 242 aims to make a lasting impact on women’s golf in the region.
