NASSAU, BAHAMAS- AML Foods Limited has officially begun demolition and debris removal at the sites of Solomon’s Old Trail and Cost Right Nassau, just six weeks after a devastating fire destroyed both locations. The work marks the first visible step in what the company says will be a carefully managed and transparent path to rebuilding.
Working in close coordination with government departments and relevant authorities, AML is aiming to complete the full demolition and site clearing within 90 days. Efforts are being made to limit disruptions to surrounding schools, businesses, and residential communities, with priority given to safely removing any remaining organic matter from the damaged buildings.
The company reported that access to the sites was restricted for roughly four weeks while investigations were conducted. Once cleared, AML quickly moved to solicit contractor bids, obtain the required permits, and begin mobilizing crews. “Our team responded incredibly quickly to this issue—they secured quotes, obtained approvals, and began work within two weeks,” said Gavin Watchorn, Chief Executive Officer of AML Foods. “This was accomplished while managing operations at our other stores and successfully launching our newest location in Eleuthera.”
AML Foods, which was incorporated in 1989 and is listed on the Bahamas International Securities Exchange, operates across multiple food retail formats in The Bahamas. Its brands include Solomon’s Super Center, Solomon’s Yamacraw, Solomon’s Lucaya, Fresh Market Old Fort Bay, and Fresh Market Harbour Bay, as well as Cost Right club stores in Nassau and Freeport. The company also operates nine Domino’s Pizza franchises across Nassau and Freeport.
Watchorn said the company remains committed to transparent communication and responsible progress as it advances cleanup efforts and plans for future redevelopment. While AML remains confident in its direction, executives acknowledged that various external conditions—including economic shifts, operating costs, and marketplace dynamics—could impact the timeline and outcome of its recovery strategy.
