NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 3-day workshop designed to certify local agriculture experts on exporting local food to the United States began at the British Colonial Hotel on Wednesday, as officials look to ramp up food export efforts internationally.
The workshop is being facilitated by the United States Department of Agriculture in collaboration with IICA.
Scores of Bahamian agriculture workers from New Providence and various family islands “qualified” for the workshop, according to USDA officials, and subsequently will now be able to export their products.
Agriculture Minister Jomo Campbell touted the workshop, noting that “food safety is not just a regulatory requirement, it is a fundamental aspect of public health.”
Campbell added that through this workshop, Americans will get to experience Bahamians’ cultural dishes
U.S. Charge D’affaires Kimberly Furnish asserted that the food safety workshop speaks to the U.S.’ commitment in helping The Bahamas to promote its agricultural industry beyond its borders.
