GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS — Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Dr Hubert Minnis and Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Iram Lewis were two of numerous government representatives who recently participated in the official opening of Champs Community Center on Grand Bahama.
Also present was Sally Laing, CIBC FirstCaribbean Freeport Branch Manager.
On behalf of the bank, Laing presented the first cheque for phase two of the project.
“CIBC FirstCaribbean is committed to the development of the areas in which we work. For over 24 years, the Falcon’s Boys Club has benefitted the lives of thousands, and we know the opening of Champs Community Center will only add to that number,” she said.
The focal goal of the Champs Community Center is to continue working with young men throughout the city of Grand Bahama by way of weekly activities and other events.
Minnis emphasized the importance of community and the impact the center will have on those it supports. Lewis added that, for young men, the center is a “safe space” for sports and recreation.
Earlier this year, Grand Bahama became home to the first of all CIBC FirstCaribbean branches in the country to offer Smart ABM technology. In addition to other upgrades, the bank’s state-of-the-art Pioneer’s Way branch in Freeport features three ultramodern ABM machines and a drive-thru ABM. With the rollout of this new technology came faster, more efficient cash and cheque-related transactions, and an amplified banking experience overall.
