Boaters go missing off Berry Islands, search and rescue efforts underway

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — An ongoing search and rescue mission is underway by members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) Search and Rescue Unit, the Royal Bahamas Police Marine Division, BASRA and the United States Coast Guard, for an overdue vessel with several individuals onboard.

The 29-foot Mako vessel departed Freeport, Grand Bahama, with eight to 10 occupants and was last seen leaving Bimini on Tuesday morning, and was en route to Florida.

Aerial and maritime searches along the coastlines, ocean waters, nearby cays and reefs are currently being conducted.

Members of the community have also taken part in the search and are encouraged to keep their eyes open for the vessel.
