Corporate donors provide 300 more tablets for Education Ministry

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — The Ministry of Education (MoE) recently accepted 300 tablets from corporate sponsors including the District Grand Lodge Bahamas Turks and Caicos and the Bahamas Football Association.

An MoE statement noted: “The District Grand Lodge, in partnership with Masonic Charitable Foundation, Royal Victoria Lodge No. 443 and Aliv, donated 200 tablets. The District Grand Lodge also made a donation of 50 tablets for the Ministry of Education, Youth, Culture and Library Services in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

“The Bahamas Football Association donated 100 tablets.”

During a ceremony held in the foyer of the MOE on Monday, Minister of Education Jeffrey Lloyd expressed gratitude for the organizations “responding to the appeals of the Ministry of Education to assist in the education of students”.

“You have come forth with great generosity and philanthropy to meet this phenomenal goal of 36,000 devices,” he said, referencing his ministry’s goal of providing an electronic device to every student in the public school system in The Bahamas this year.

“We’re well on the way [but] we’re not there yet. The ambition was to raise one million dollars — we’re over $300,000 toward that goal with more coming every day. In addition to the funding, you provided the actual physical device for our children.”

Executives and members of the Bahamas Football Association, Aliv and the District Grand Lodge attended the event. Also present were MOE officials Lorraine Armbrister, permanent secretary; Dr Marcellus Taylor, director; and Serethea Clarke, undersecretary.
