NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A marine transport employee was found floating near the shore at Cabbage Beach this morning.
The victim has been identified as 38-year-old deckhand Chrisco “CK” Knowles, of Triple A Marine Transport.
He was described as a hard worker, and full of adrenaline by his employer, Triple A owner Stefan Newbold.
Newbold told Eyewitness News Online Knowles was on a little boat, and had gone to the tug on the eastern end of Cabbage Beach to use the bathroom.
He said Knowles tied a rope onto himself; however, the boat drifted to shore and he was found floating in the water.
Newbold said staff had contact with Knowles shortly before his body was found.
“(Knowles) went to the tug to use the restroom in the little boat apparently he didn’t tie the rope good enough, when he come out the boat was adrift,” he continued.
“He took his clothes off and pitched in the water to swim the boat down, and that’s the last sight two of my guys who was on the barge, they saw him swimming for the boat and then he just disappeared.
Newbold said: “It’s just a sad situation, he was one of my best swimmers, he had a lot of adrenaline and it’s just hard.
Assistant Superintendent Arma Rolle said first responders attempted to revive the man but were unsuccessful.
Rolle said police were alerted Knowles’ body had been found by a passing vessel shortly after 9 am.
