Five local athletes look to end the indoor track and field season with a bang this weekend at the International Association of Athletic Federations’ (IAAF) World Indoor Championships in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
Warren Fraser, Donald Thomas, Alonzo Russell, Devynne Charlton and Jamal Wilson will all be looking to medal at the champions for the first time.
Wilson and Thomas will be the first two to compete in the men’s high jump, followed by Fraser in the 100, Charlton in the 100 hurdles and Russell in the men’s 400 meters (m).
Shaunae Miller-Uibo, who tied the World also made an application to compete in the heptathlon, but the IAAF denied the request as they had already met their quota. She was invited to compete in the 60m, but declined the invite.
Sandra Laing will serve as the team manager with Ronald Cartwright as the head coach. BAAA president Rosamunde Carey and BAAA treasurer Drumeco Archer will both accompany the team.
The 17th IAAF World Championships in athletics takes place National Indoor Arena from March 1-4.
