WSC unions strike poll set for tomorrow
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Having led a work to rule in recent weeks, coupled with a strike poll set for April 17th, president of The Bahamas Utilities Services and Allied Workers Union (BUSAWU) Dwayne Woods said the union and management at the Water and Sewerage Corporation (WSC) has come to an agreement on two pressing matters.
He noted, however, that there are still some nine matters that remain outstanding.
Woods told Eyewitness News on Monday that as it now stands, the energy between the union and WSC’s board of directors and the director of labor is good, and he hopes to keep it that way in an effort to remain civil and have matters resolved sooner than later.
Woods said he is also looking for favourable results upon the completion of the union’s strike poll set for tomorrow.
He said he is also hoping that the Corporation pays close attention to the outcome of the poll, rather than cause another issue.
“We don’t want to go public in a hostile manner, but we hope that the meeting can continue and we can resolve all of the matters going forward,” Woods said.
Last week, Obie Ferguson, leader of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), said it is the TUC’s job to represent the working people and they will do just that.
The TUC president said the whole idea of Water and Sewerage having a strike vote is to ensure that matters are addressed.
