Marks third for the month of December
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The country’s murder count in the capital rose two notches after a double murder was recorded on Tuesday morning at a home on New Hope Drive, Bamboo Town.
The victims have been identified by police as James Johnson, 29, and Kevisha Richards, 24.
According to police press liaison officer Superintendent Shanta Knowles, the incident happened shortly after midnight on Tuesday.
Police were dispatched to a report of gun shots being fired in the area of the New Hope Drive, Joan’s Heights.
When police units arrived, they discovered a male unresponsive inside of a vehicle with trauma to his body and a female lying in front of a residence, also with trauma to her body.
Paramedics arrived on the scene and confirmed that the male was deceased. The female was rushed to hospital, but succumbed to her injuries a short time later.
Eyewitness News Online understands that the female victim was an employee at Pizza Hut off Prince Charles Drive. Officials at the company said they were in communication with family members but they declined to make any further comment.
Yesterday’s double homicide was the third double homicide recorded in the capital this month.
As investigations continue into Tuesday’s murder, Supt. Knowles referred to this latest double homicide, just days before the Christmas, as unfortunate.
“We have uniformed controls going on so we are asking members of the public to go out and enjoy themselves but be aware of their surroundings. This is unfortunate and we wish that we can control the heinous acts.”
Despite this latest murder, police officials are predicting for the first time in eight years, a murder count that will remain under triple digits.
