Major drug bust in GB

More than $1 million seized in suspected marijuana

More than $1million worth of suspected marijuana was seized by police in Grand Bahama on Tuesday.

Police reported that it was shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday when Drug Enforcement Unit Officers, also with regional counterparts while on patrol in waters off the coast of High Rock in East Grand Bahama saw a suspicious single engine vessel with two men onboard.

Police said that the occupants, upon seeing the officers, took off at a high rate of speed and a chase ensured. The suspects were intercepted near Gold Rock Creek after their vessel ran aground.

The occupants of the vessel managed to make good their escape in nearby bushes.

When police searched the vessel they discovered 23 crocus sacs of suspected marijuana with an estimated street value of $1.3 million.

Earlier this month, police discovered more than $200 thousand worth of marijuana in South Bahamia in Grand Bahama in a bushy area on Florin Drive. No arrests were made in connection with this find.
