Bahamas Department of Corrections (BDOC) inducted its first 20 parole officers on Friday.
Acting Commissioner of Prisons Charles murphy said this is just the beginning of a staffing program that is long overdue.
Murphy told Eyewitness News that as soon as legislation is enacted, a parole system will be established that is expected to allow inmates to be temporarily released upon agreeing to certain conditions.
They will however be monitored by a parole officer, Murphy said.
The program, he said, was designed on the bases of teaching corrections officers about interviewing and understanding techniques and habits.
