Over the summer, more than 200 local contractors were make repairs to 27 public schools in New Providence, costing taxpayers some $8 million dollars.

While there was concern that A.F. Adderley Junior and the Eva Hilton Primary schools would not be ready due to construction, Minister of Education Jeff Lloyd assured that all school in the capital will open today.

“I’ve been assured that every single contractor we’ve employed, that all of the repairs that are essential for the opening of school will be completed,” he said.

“There may be some cosmetic work here and there, but it will not interfere with the opening and operations of schools.”

Lloyd revealed however, that the new pre-school unit at the Thelma Gibson School will not be ready to open today.
