Investigations underway into four homicides

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Police are currently investigating three separate shooting incidents that tragically resulted in the deaths of four men in the capital.

In the first incident, two men in their forties were fatally shot just before 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2024, near Pineyard Road. Initial reports indicate that the victims had arrived at a residence on Penford Close in a white Nissan Tiida when occupants of a dark-colored Japanese vehicle approached and opened fire, fatally injuring both men. Despite attempts to flee, they collapsed outside a nearby residence. Emergency medical technicians assessed the victims but were unable to detect any signs of life. During the investigation, a significant quantity of suspected marijuana was discovered inside the victims’ vehicle.

The second incident occurred early on Friday, July 19, 2024, around 1:00 a.m., when police’s ShotSpotter technology detected gunfire on Crooked Island Street, north of Palmetto Street. According to preliminary reports, two unknown males approached a 24-year-old man outside a bar, brandished a firearm, and shot him. A 41-year-old woman nearby was also injured in the incident. The male victim succumbed to his injuries, while the female victim was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

In the final incident, around 4:30 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2024, officers patrolling the area of Sumner Street and Soldier Road discovered a silver Daihatsu Hijet van with a lone male driver in his early thirties suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper torso. Initial reports suggest that the driver pulled over when a gray Japanese vehicle approached and fired shots, fatally injuring him. The assailants fled west on Soldier Road, while the driver attempted to escape but collided with a pole and came to a stop. Emergency medical technicians pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

Police are actively investigating these incidents and urge anyone with information to contact 911, 919, the Criminal Investigation Department at 502-9991/2, or CRIME STOPPERS at 328-TIPS (8477).

An investigation has also been launched into an alleged armed robbery on Thursday, July 18, 2024, in the Fritz Lane area. According to reports, a lone male armed with a firearm approached a victim sitting on his porch around 7:00 p.m., robbed him of cash and personal items, and fled in a silver Japanese vehicle.
