Former chairman of The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers Confederation (BCCEC) Gowon Bowe responded to the recent employment statistics released by the Department of Statistics last week, which showed a 2.2 per cent growth in employment while unemployment figures barely changed.

Bowe said while the new employment numbers are good for any economy, he recommended the survey be conducted regularly as opposed to twice a year, to get a better snapshot of the true figures, as numbers change according to what is taking place in the economy at a specific time.

Regarding the high unemployment figures among youth, Bowe called on education officials to ensure that high school students are better prepared for the workforce.
