NASSAU, BAHAMAS — More than 80 Bahamians were recently added to the staff cohort at the Luxury Included® Sandals Royal Bahamian following a recent job fair at the resort.
The extremely successful event saw 90 percent of the candidates in attendance receiving employment. Among those employed were, concierge agents, front office agents, loyalty and travel consultants, and cooks.
General Manager Kevin Clarke shared that he and his team at the resort are happy to carry out the brand’s mandate.
“As leaders, we are the chief custodians of the company’s purpose, which is to inspire people to live more prosperous, sustainable, and fulfilling lives. We do this by ensuring that Bahamian citizens receive gainful employment in a space that is conducive to their growth and to an improved standard of living. Every single time we decide to take on new employees, we bear that in mind. I am delighted that the majority of candidates who came in on the day walked away with an opportunity,” he said.
Clarke added that among the new hires are individuals who have never worked in the hospitality and tourism sector but expressed interest because they were aware that Sandals is a brand focused on learning and development.
“We hire the attitude and train the skill. This all forms part of sustainability, we don’t just hand a man a fish, we teach him how to fish. You are not just receiving a wage, here at Sandals Royal Bahamian, you are receiving world class training from some of the finest trainers in our business, which allows you to hone skillsets that you will possess for life.”
Kiyerra Hepburn, newly hired concierge agent, expressed that she is slowly but surely being immersed into the brand. She shared that while this is her introduction to hospitality and tourism, she has been garnering a wealth of knowledge.
“Right now, I am undergoing the onboarding process. I am learning about the different departments and what they do. It has been quite interesting to see the different components of this industry and I see how much room there is for growth here. The managers and team members have been very warm and welcoming. I already feel like I am a part of the Sandals family,” she declared.
The job fair was also quite timely, as the resort recently reopened its East Bay block after it was closed for renovations. This opens up some 145 rooms for guests and even more job opportunities for Bahamians.
“The prospects are looking excellent for our guests, our current team members, and potential ones. The East Bay not only houses rooms but also comprises the gym, the spa, our butler, and Club Sandals lounges, so our team members will certainly have space to produce,” Clarke shared.
