Labour Director John Pinder said the Department of Labour is looking to reduce the number of work permit approvals for foreign labour in an effort to get more Bahamians working.
This he said, will however, require additional training.
Pinder added that the department had recently been in discussions with the University of The Bahamas (UB), for the institution to begin tailoring its programmes to reflect the needs of the job market.
Pinder said that he is also looking to have discussions with major companies to convince them to hire Bahamian talent.
