NASSAU, BAHAMAS — An eight-member jury yesterday convicted a 48-year-old businessman of raping his teenage daughter.
The man was accused of raping his daughter twice when she was 15 and 16 years old in 2015 and 2016.
She reported the incidents in 2017 after secretly recording her father asking her not to expose him.
During her testimony, the woman said her father sexually abused her shortly after coming into her life.
The man had previously denied being her father but was forced to take a DNA test, and ordered by the court to pay child support.
Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Basil Cumberbatch suggested that the man molested his daughter because he resented making support payments.
The man denied the claims and accused his daughter of lying because he didn’t buy her a car.
The jury consisted of five women and three men.
Justice Guillimina Archer-Minns remanded the man to prison until December 12 for sentencing.
