CRIME REPORT: Police recover suspected marijuana, cocaine, a firearm and multiple rounds of ammunition

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — As efforts to create safer communities continue, officers attached to operation Ceasefire have successfully removed a quantity of suspected Marijuana, Cocaine, and one firearm, along with multiple rounds of ammunition from the streets of New Providence within 24 hours.

In the first incident, Ceasefire officers were on routine patrol in the Bain & Grants Town community when they attempted to approach a man who was standing in the area of a convenience store on Frogman Lane sometime around 11.30pm on Sunday.

On seeing the officers, the man reportedly fled the area and made good his escape.

Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings said officers conducted an extensive search of the area where the man stood and discovered a quantity of suspected marijuana and cocaine packages.

The second incident reportedly occurred in the area of Montell Heights shortly before 3am yesterday.

Preliminary reports indicate that officers attached to the operation Ceasefire were on routine patrol on Mantol Street when they made several attempts to stop a silver Mercedes Benz occupied by three men.

The driver reportedly sped off which resulted in a short chase and the suspect’s vehicle colliding into a utility pole.

The males were subsequently arrested and a search of the vehicle was conducted, where a handgun with several rounds of ammunition was recovered.

Active police investigations continue.
