80 more Haitian migrants apprehended near Exuma

Some 80 Haitian migrants were apprehended Monday evening by Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) marines, after receiving word of the illegal landfall earlier in the day.

According to the military arm,  RBDF marines, acting on information received Monday morning, intercepted a Haitian sailing sloop near the Exuma chain.

The 40–ft sailing vessel was apprehended six nautical miles west of Beacon Cay, near the top of the Exuma chain, shortly after 6:00 p.m.

Approximately 80 Haitian migrants were aboard, according to the RBDF.

The migrants, authorities said, were transported to the capital where they were turned over to Immigration officials for processing.
