NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Norman Ferguson,71, pleaded not guilty to one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor in a Grand Bahama court on Wednesday.
The pensioner is accused of having sexual relations with an eight-year-old relative.
According to police, the mother of the minor contacted the Police Control Room to report the matter on Sunday past.
A team of uniformed and plainclothes officers were said to have been dispatched to the home to investigate.
The mother reported that she awoke around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday and did not find her husband in bed. It was alleged that she eventually found him on top of the eight-year-old-girl and was sexually assaulting her.
According to reports, the young victim alleged that it was not the first time that she had been sexually assaulted by the suspect and he also allegedly forced her to have anal sex. She also claimed that Ferguson was allegedly having sexual relations with her since she was five years old.
Yesterday, Ferguson appeared before Magistrate Debbie Ferguson. He told the court that he is only being charged because of a disagreement with his wife.
Upon leaving court, Ferguson expressed that he was 70 years old and would never fool with a young girl.
Bail for Ferguson was denied.
He is expected to return to court on June 12.
