Seven persons have been arrested following a massive drug seizure on New Providence, according to authorities.

Police said they made the discovery shortly after 4:00 p.m. Thursday in the Bain and Grants Town constituency.

Officers of the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) were said to have found some 375 pounds of drugs with an estimated street value of $375,000.

Two Jamaican men, a Jamaican woman, an American woman and two Bahamian women were among those arrested.

Approximately 18 bales were removed from the Meadow and Augusta Streets residence

Assistant Commissioner of Police Clayton Fernander credited a vigilant and cooperative neighbourhood for the discovery.

AreaMember of Parliament (MP) Travis Robinson also spoke to Eyewitness News and said, while the community hopes to curb the drug challenges in the area, he will be fully supporting the decriminalisation of marijuana as the government looks to form a committee to determine the way forward with the drug.
