7 Haitian nationals apprehended in joint operation

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – In a joint operation dubbed, ‘Operation Impact,’ the Department of Immigration, the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) and the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) arrested seven Haitian nationals around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, March 1.

The Department of Immigration said the nationals, three females and four males, were subsequently transported to the Carmichael Road Detention Centre for further processing.

Immigration said this latest operation covered the areas of Carmichael Road, Faith Avenue, Cowpen Road, Baillou Hill Road South, East Street North, Collins Avenue and Wulff Road.

“We wish to remind the general public that we are committed to carrying out the mandates of all law enforcement agencies in combating illegal migration, immigration offences and criminal offences. This results in a number of persons being arrested for various criminal offences by RBPF,” outlined a statement released Friday from Bahamas Immigration.

“The Department will continue these strategic planning efforts, operationalize our resources to establish effective border control management and to ensure compliance with our immigration laws.”
