Health Minister Dr. Duane Sands welcomed the country’s newest doctors to the fold on Sunday at their graduation ceremony held at the Baha Mar resort.

Dr. Sands underscored the many medical challenges that the country faces to the 45 new inductees, just before they took a sacred oath in front of a packed room of loved ones and fellow medical practitioners.

Vice Chancellor of the University of the West Indies (UWI) School of Clinical Medicine and Research Sir Hilary Beckles, told the new doctors that the medical profession requires a paradigm shift – a notion he said is supported around the region – to encourage reparation for what slave ancestors were made to consume, which ultimately affects our health today.
