South Beach shoot-out puts man in hospital

A man is today fighting for his life in hospital, after he was shot multiple times late Monday night.

The shooting, police said, took place shortly after 11:00 p.m. in South Beach.

According to police, the victim was approached by three men – armed with firearms, who shot him about the body before fleeing on foot. He was transported to hospital and is listed in critical condition.

The shooting happened hours after a man was shot and killed in the same area. That murder took place shortly after 10:00 a.m., which brought the murder count to 35. Police have not officially identified the victim, but Eyewitness News understands he is Javano Stuart.

Robberies under investigation

In other crime news, police are seeking the public’s help in finding the suspects responsible for two separate armed robberies on Tuesday.

Police reports state that shortly after midnight, a man was standing outside of his Malaysia Way home in Elizabeth Estates, when he was approached by a man with a firearm, who robbed him of money before fleeing the scene in a gray vehicle, license #SD4298.

About an hour later, according to police, a man was standing in front of his Baillou Hill Road south home, when he was approached by two men – armed with firearms, who robbed him of cash before fleeing the scene in a gray Honda Accord.

Drugs, weapon and ammunition found 

Officers are also said to have recovered a large quantity of marijuana over the holiday weekend.

According to reports, shortly after 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Flying Squad officers searched a home on Joe Farrington Road and recovered a .380 pistol, with an unknown amount of suspected marijuana.

One man was taken into custody and is expected to face charges sometime this week.

Police also recovered another weapon late Sunday night.

According to reports a man was seen acting suspicious near a deserted vehicle on Murchison Drive. Upon seeing officers of the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), the suspect escaped on foot.

A search of the vehicle yielded a .45 pistol along with .45 ammunition.

Meantime police in Bimini said they discovered a large quantity of suspected marijuana Monday.

Police say shortly after 7:00 p.m., officers on the island followed up a tip and discovered a black plastic bag containing marijuana in a bushy area. The drugs are said to carry a street value of $1,060.

About an hour later, Bimini police said another tip led them to discover a plastic bag near a meter box with suspected marijuana carrying a street value of $325.

Investigations are said to be ongoing.
