2018 Run for Pompey officially launched

The 2018 Run for Pompey race was officially launched yesterday at Bahamas Financial Insurance (BAF) headquarters on Independence Drive.

The fourth edition of the Run for Pompey is set for November 10 in Exuma, and once again, BAF is chief sponsor.

Officials said there will be five different runs contested at this year’s event – the five-kilometres (k), the 10k, the half marathon, the full marathon and the 50k ultra marathon.

The regatta site in George Town will be the starting point for all races.

“This race has become an iconic event and tourist attraction for the island of Exuma,” said race organizer and director Kevin Taylor.

“What we are most proud of is the four academic scholarships that have been handed out as a result of this event. At this point, we have registrants as far away as Africa and France, and we are really excited about having this staged once again in Exuma.”

Following the race, a full academic scholarship is awarded to one student for tertiary studies.

“BAF is proud to partner with the organizers of this great event for a fourth year,” said BAF Managing Director Sandy Morley.

“We believe that all participants have committed to wellness and healthy living. These are some objectives that we try to drive home with our clients and staff.

“We are also happy that we are able to impact the lives of young people. We thank all patrons and organizers. We also look forward to continuing as chief sponsors of this event.”

Other sponsors include ALIV, GIV Bahamas, Ministry of Tourism, Grand Isle Resort, Peace and Plenty, Ty’s Sunset Bar and Grill, Bahamas Watch Exchange, Bahamas Local, Diane Phillips and Associates, GSO Counsel and Attorneys-at-Law, Superclubs Breezes, Dasani, Catch a Fire, Cash N’ Go, The Swimming Pig and Sands Beer.
