14 people including three toddlers injured in boating accident

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Police on the island of Grand Bahama are investigating a boating accident, which left 14 people, including three toddlers, injured.

Reports state that shortly before 1 pm on Sunday a 36ft vessel with twenty-one (21) people onboard left Fortune Bay Drive, en route to Grand Cay, Abaco when the vessel collided into a sand bank, a half mile north of the Freeport Dock. 

Several passengers were reportedly ejected from the vessel and subsequently retrieved from the water. The passengers, who were all Bahamian, were assisted by another vessel and returned to Grand Bahama. 

The injured, which included seven women, four men, two female toddlers and a male toddler, were taken to the Rand Memorial Hospital to be treated for minor injuries sustained during the accident. Police are questioning the boat captain, a 53-year-old man of Grand Cay, Abaco in connection with this incident. Police investigations continue.
