Management at the Water and Sewerage Corporation (W&SC) defended the firing of three employees last week while blasting executives of The Bahamas Utilities Services and Allied Workers Union (BUSAWU) Monday.
W&SC Chairman Adrian Gibson told the media yesterday, that while the union called foul play in their decision, management at the country’s primary water facility did not breach its industrial agreement.
Three former employees of the corporation were accused of stealing a fire hydrant earlier this year and were released from the company in May to allow the judicial process to run its course.
The men were rehired last week, but were formally terminated less than 48 hours later.
According to management, the men were never found innocent by the court. As such, Gibson said it was decided that it would be in the company’s best interest to sever ties.
