Woman charged with defrauding post office

A Mayaguana woman pleaded guilty to six counts of fraud yesterday in court before Magistrate Samuel McKinney. She was fined and sentenced to three months in prison.  Akiesha Simms, 32, was shackled and ushered into court under heavy police guard.

It is alleged that between October 2017 and May 2018 Simms defrauded officials at the Abraham’s Bay post office of nearly $3,000 through forged documents.

Magistrate Mckinney sentenced Simms to three months at the Bahamas Department of Corrections and if she is unable to repay the funds she will serve an additional three months.
