NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The United States White House has formally announced the withdrawal of the nomination of American billionaire Doug Manchester as the U.S. ambassador for The Bahamas.

The notice from the White House on Wednesday stated the withdrawal of the nomination for Manchester to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, was sent to the U.S. Senate on January 16, 2019.

The Manchester Financial Group told The Nassau Guardian last month that Californian had withdrawn due to the threats on his and his family’s lives including three infant children under four years old.”

Manchester was first nominated by President Donald Trump in May 2017 and again in 2018 and 2019 after his nomination languished in the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

The real estate tycoon raised concerns in August 2017 when he described the Bahamas as a “protectorate of the United States during his first confirmation hearing.

He has since walked back that description, acknowledging The Bahamas as a sovereign nation.
