NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Oral Roberts University (ORU) sprint-hurdler Sasha Wells was rewarded for a stellar collegiate season over the weekend.

The sophomore was chosen as The Summit League’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year.

The award was voted on by the league’s head coaches for her performances throughout the indoor track and field season.

Wells was also the first athlete in school history to take home the Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year award as well.

During the 2018-19 season, she broke her own school record in the 60-metre (m) hurdles twice during the season.

This season, Wells won the women’s 60m (7.54) at the league championships. She also won the 60m hurdles (8.47) and finished third in the 200m (24.54), earning all-league honours in all three events.

She was named the Summit League MVP after earning 26 team points for ORU. Wells was the youngest student-athlete to win an “Athlete of the Year” award, joining seniors Paytton Ottherdahl and Bailey Retzlaff of North Dakota State and Kyle Burdick of South Dakota State.
