Vienna beef frank link products recalled due to possible contamination with metal

Localretailers and wholesalers are asked to check inventory

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service announced on Wednesday that Vienna Beef Ltd, based in Chicago, Illinois, has recalled some 2,030lbs of beef frank links, due to the possibility of contamination with extraneous material, specifically metal.

The beef frank link products were produced on May 2, 2019 with an establishment number “EST. 1” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

A statement issued yesterday from The Bahamas Agricultural Food Safety Authority (BAHFSA) outlined that locally, the Ministry of Health Surveillance Unit has issued no reports regarding this product, and none has been confirmed by Vienna Beef, Ltd.

“Localretailers and wholesalers are asked to check their inventory for products bearing the establishment number provided and, if found, remove and discard the product from their freezers so that they are not sold to consumers,” the BAHFSA statement read.

“Wholesalers that are in possession of any recalled product are also asked to notify the public in a timely manner. Consumers, likewise, are asked to check their freezers and discard this product if found.”

The BAHFSA said it is committed to informing and advising the public when such recalls become known and also urged consumers to be vigilant when preparing and consuming foods, such as meat products.

The BAHFSA said this is the second recall during the month of May that has implicated “metal” as the likely contaminant.
