UK ready to begin Bahamas test

The University of Kentucky men’s basketball team will begin the second edition of its Big Blue Bahamas Tour today against The Bahamas men’s national basketball team in the Imperial Ballroom of the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island.

The game against The Bahamas is one of four games Kentucky will play in the country as it prepares for the upcoming National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) season.

“I have great kids. I have some older players, some veterans, last year we had all freshman,” said Wildcats coach John Calipari.

“But, we have some veteran players really good players but that doesn’t mean you’re going to be a really good team. This is where we find out how those pieces fit together.

“This trip gives these guys a chance to bond, do activities together, have meals together and play some intense competition. Let’s see how they respond and what they learn about each other.”

While in The Bahamas, the Wildcats will also take on San Lorenzo de Almargo, Mega Bemax and Team Toronto. This will be the second time that Kentucky begins its season in The Bahamas.

Back in 2014, the team traveled to The Bahamas and played games against national teams of the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, and Champagne Chalons-Reims Basket (France) at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium.
