DPM offered condolences to Wells’ family and families of recent murder victims
NASSAU, BAHAMAS — A man was shot and killed on Bahama Avenue, off Blue Hill Road, earlier yesterday morning — the third killing in New Providence in less than 48-hours.
According to authorities, officers responding to reports of a shooting around 1 a.m. discovered the body of a man outside a building with gunshot wounds.
He died on scene.
Police alerted the public to the murder at 7 a.m. in a crime report.
Authorities also reported yesterday that a man shot at a business establishment on East Sunrise Highway a month ago, died at the Rand Memorial Hospital around 9:25 a.m. yesterday morning.
According to reports, an armed man entered the business around 4 a.m. and shot two men.
One man was reportedly shot to the upper body, while the other was shot in the lower part of his body, police said.
Authorities did not release the identity of the victim.
The latest killing pushed the murder count for 2019 up to 55, according to Eyewitness News Online’s records.
There have been three murders in less than 48 hours.
Shortly after 1:30 p.m. Sunday, a man sitting outside his home on Lucky Heart Corner, off East Street, was shot dead.
Relatives identified the victim as Donte Demeritte.
Just hours earlier, a man standing outside a home on Roland Street, Ridgeland park was shot multiple times.
The incident took place around 4 a.m.
The victim was identified by relatives as Cabrio Wells, the younger brother of Minister of Transport and Local Government Renward Wells.
Outside the Churchill Building yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Peter Turnquest offered condolences to Wells, his family, and the families of those who lost their lives during the weekend marred with violence.
“I expressed our condolences to minister Wells and to his mother, who has indicated in the paper today that she has lost her baby son,” Turnquest said.
“No matter what the circumstances are, we understand the love between a mother and her child and we certainly feel for her and that loss today.”
